Aerial land locator - hints & tips

How can Aerial Land Locator help me?

Aerial Land Locator is a tool allowing use of maps and/or aerial photos to locate property of interest and is useful for locating properties where little or no address information is known.

Title registers and plans of registered properties will then be available for purchase.

How do I find information for property that I am interested in using Aerial Land Locator?

You can search using just the map, aerial imagery, or a combination of both, by selecting the different tabs at the top of the image.

Address search:
  • Enter any combination of address information, and press search and a map will be revealed. When the map or photo is viewed at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250 the option 'Find Properties' will be made available. Selecting this option will change the cursor from a cross to a radius. Then use Radius Search to select properties within that radius.
Zoom and centre:
  • Select the 'Zoom and centre' option. Select the area of interest on the map or aerial image to zoom and centre on the point. When the map or photo is viewed at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250 the option 'Find Properties' will be available. A radius search can then be used.
Scale:
  • Use Select scales to change the level of detail shown in the map/aerial photo. When the map or photo is viewed at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250 the option 'Find Properties' will be available. A radius search can then be used.
How do I move around the map and/or aerial photos to find the area I am interested in?

Navigate the map and/or photos using the arrows.

Select the 'Centre Map' option and select an area on the map and/or aerial photo and the image will centre on your selection.

Select the 'Zoom and Centre Map' option and select the area on the map and/or aerial photo to zoom and centre on.

Select different scales using the drop down menu provided.

At scale 1/2500 or 1/1250 radius search can be used to locate properties.

When can I use the 'Find properties' button to get the information I am interested in?

You can select 'Find properties' option when the map and/or photo are viewed at scale 1/2500 or 1/1250.

You can then use radius search to locate properties within a specified radius of a selected point on the map and/or aerial photo.

Radius search allows selection of a small area of the map and/or aerial photo.

A radius search can be made at scales of 1/2500 or 1/1250.
Select 'Find Properties' and choose a radius value - either 5, 10 or 20m.
Then select the area of interest on the map and/or aerial photo.
All properties found within the specified radius will be returned as results.

What is the smallest area I can search?

Why aren't there aerial photos for the area I am interested in?

Aerial photos are currently available for most of England and Wales, new data is loaded when it becomes available.

The map covers all of England and Wales so can always be used to locate an area of interest.
